Grammarly vs QuillBot: which one should you use?
The short answer
Use Grammarly if you want your writing checked as you type: spelling, grammar, tone and clarity. Use QuillBot if you mostly need to reword sentences or paragraphs in a different style. Many people use the free versions of both.
What Grammarly does
Grammarly's free plan checks spelling and grammar and shows you the tone of your writing. The Pro plan adds full-sentence rewrites, tone adjustments, plagiarism and AI-text detection, and 2,000 AI prompts a month. The free plan gets 100. (Source: Grammarly plans)
What QuillBot does
QuillBot is built around its Paraphraser, which rewrites text in more than 10 modes, from Academic to Simple. Premium also includes a plagiarism checker. You can pause a Premium subscription instead of canceling it, and use it on up to 10 devices at a time. (Source: QuillBot Premium)
Which one should you pick?
- If you write emails, reports or posts and want fewer mistakes, start with Grammarly Free.
- If you need to say the same thing in a simpler or more formal way, try QuillBot's Paraphraser.
- If you're a student, both offer plagiarism checks on paid plans. Check your school's rules on paraphrasing tools before you use one for assignments.
Pricing
Grammarly Pro is $12 a month billed yearly ($144), or $30 if you pay month to month. It also offers a free trial. See QuillBot Premium for QuillBot's current pricing.
